Is Science a Gift God Gave Us to Enlarge Our Vision?

by Robert C. Frank

We are reminded by the media each day that scientists around the world are studying everything from the tiniest parts of atoms to the largest galaxies in the universe, but unless you have thought about it or looked at the slide presentation on this web site, you may not be aware of how science has contributed to the spread of the Gospel.

Today with the aid of science, we have access to more information about the Bible than at any time in history. My Kindle eBook reader has two versions of the Bible on it and a large number of books written by modern Christian writers. When I recently heard of a new book by Bible scholar and theologian, N.T. Wright, it took less than 10 minutes to have a copy to read.

In much of his recent writing, Wright has spoken of the death and resurrection of Jesus as the beginning of a new creation. From Jesus’ own words it was the kingdom of God being like a mustard seed that when planted would someday become very large (e.g. Mk 4:30-32). With the aid of science, there are now over two billion Christians around the world who are being held responsible for caring for God’s creation by loving each other and the earth.

Caring for God’s awesome creation is a tremendous responsibility that cannot be carried out successfully without prayer and exceptional teamwork. Fortunately Team-Based Ministry is another of God’s gifts that will open new paths to the future for Christians and will help us understand why we were created. It is time for all of us to be Christ’s Team, the team that God is waiting for.
